A great honour was awarded to Hop and Skip and his long time owner Freya Rethmeier during the International Three Day Event at Luhmuhlen last weekend: The International Event Rider Association (IERA) affiliated Hop and Skip into the Hall of Fame.
Traditionally, one horse and one rider are nominated for the German Hall of Fame in Luhmuhlen each year. In 2017, Hop and Skip and former German Olympic Bronze Medallist Harry Klugmann.
Between 2011 and 2016, Dirk and Hop and Skip have competed at 49 international events and won the Team Gold Medal at the European Championships in 2013 and 2015, as well as at the World Equestrian Games in 2014. Back in 2012 he had been shortlisted for the London Olympic Games and only had to yield to his stable partner King Artus. The CHIO Aachen 2016 was the last event of his career. Since then he has been enjoying his well deserved retirement at the home of Freya Rethmeier.
This major honour of now being a member of the Hall of Fame tributes the immense support that Freya has dedicated towards Dirk over the years. Back in 2010 she bought Baxter for him from Japanese rider Kenki Sato and has since then been the greatest believer and supporter of this special partnership.
Knowing that Baxter can now enjoy a hopefully very long retirement at Freya’s home makes his long and so successful career just perfect.
Thank you Baxter. Thank you Freya. Thank you IERA.
